About this artwork

A dying star 2,000 light-years away on a 20" x 16" luminous wall art panel. Two stars at the center, locked in tight orbit. The dimmer one has been ejecting gas and dust for thousands of years in at least eight distinct layers, shaped into these expanding rings. Hundreds of narrow beams streak outward through gaps in the shells, streaming from the bright central star like sunlight through breaks in a cloud. In the outer transparent sections, distant galaxies fill the background — spirals and edge-on discs scattered behind the nebula.

This is a real NASA photograph, taken by the James Webb Space Telescope's NIRCam instrument at near-infrared wavelengths. Colors are assigned from wavelength data. Powered by CoreGLO™, the image glows the way the data was meant to be seen. Colors true to the processed photograph, the teals and reds staying distinct, light that belongs to the image rather than washing over it.
